Total Management of Cancer Since 1969

WHO WE ARE

CANCER is known as the emperor of all maladies because of the fear it spreads through us all. In spite of spectacular improvements in treatment, the disease continues to affect patients and those who care for them physically, emotionally, and financially. In 1969, CPAA was founded by Mr. Y. K. Sapru along with Mrs. Siloo Jasdanwalla and Mrs. Rekha Sapru, who together recognised the gaps in addressing cancer as a health problem in India and laid the foundation for CPAA’s holistic philosophy of ‘Total Management of Cancer’.

Mrs. Siloo Jasdanwalla and Mrs. Rekha Sapru served in the leadership roles of Hon. Secretary and Hon. Joint Secretary respectively for 56 years until their passing in 2025. Their extraordinary commitment, compassion, and institution-building helped shape CPAA into one of India’s pioneering cancer support organisations. Their enduring legacy continues to inspire CPAA’s work today under the continued guidance of Mr. Y. K. Sapru. With over five decades of experience in cancer management, CPAA continues to support patients and families through awareness, early detection, treatment support, guidance and counselling, rehabilitation, research studies, and advocacy.

Mission Statement:

CPAA works alongside the medical fraternity, focusing on education, awareness, early detection, support to treatment, guidance, counseling, rehabilitation and research. While the primary concern is to meet the needs of poor cancer patients who otherwise would not be able to benefit from the best treatments that medical science has to offer, CPAA reaches out to patients from all walks of life in every possible way.

Vision of CPAA:

Total Management of Cancer

To be an all-encompassing cancer help agency that works towards patient care, aid and assistance, awareness, early detection, rehabilitation and advocacy. To understand and relate with the far-reaching impact cancer has on an individual’s life. To go beyond the malignancy and treatment of cancer on the medical front and help the individual cope with the economic, social and psychological shadows the disease may cast. To effect and move government policies to ensure a fair chance of treatment for every Indian citizen. To live out completely the holistic approach to treatment of cancer which CPAA calls the ‘Total Management of Cancer’ philosophy.

WHAT WE DO:

Cancer is a word that spreads fear through us all. Those whose lives are touched by cancer know the turmoil it can cause. While the medical fraternity is adept at treating the disease, often the person and family around the tumour are neglected.
Cancer Patients Aid Association is a non-profit organisation that has envisioned a nation where patients face the illness with the hope of living their lives to the fullest, providing them with the means to reclaim their identities. In 1969, Mr. Y. K. Sapru, Founder Chairman, CPAA recognised and developed the philosophy of the 'Total Management of Cancer' which is recognised world over today. CPAA attacks the trauma patients experience holistically-physically, emotionally, psychologically and spiritually.
CPAA also recognised that the problem of cancer in India is more than the disease. The lack of awareness on faulty lifestyles as well as the stigma related to the disease during treatment and after led to broadening activities to include delivering lectures to raise awareness, Screening for early detection, Rehabilitation of patients during and after completing treatment, Advocacy which helped make the latest drugs affordable to all strata of society and Implementing tobacco control laws, Research both translational and on psychological issues related to cancer.
CPAA focuses on an all-round treatment, not only physical support, but also psychological care for the patient and the family, lifting them from despondency, giving them hope and assuring them that there is an entire community supporting them. Our organisation has impacted the lives of hundreds of thousands of people by following the holistic philosophy of Total Management of Cancer for over 50 years.
