Riaan was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia when he was 3 years old and has been since taking treatment at Sion Hospital, Mumbai under Dr Sujata Sharma. He has been advised chemotherapy and a year and a half of oral maintenance therapy. As of now he has completed two cycles and is responding well. His family hails from Yemen and His father works in a small firm and earns Rs 7,900 (INR) per month.
