CPAA’s Rehabilitation Centre was established in 1987 to provide economic independence, social camaraderie and hope to cancer patients and their care givers by giving them gainful and appropriate employment. The Center helps patients tide over the times when they are forced to lose their home, businesses and other precious possessions to meet treatment expenses and other costs. Additionally such patients are retrained in an appropriate craft so that they have a new source of income to help them support their families with self respect and dignity.
The patients and their relatives are referred to the centre by various hospitals and treatment centers. They are trained in various skills, given monthly wages, conveyance expenses, children’s school fees, medical aid and rations from the food bank. Thousands of cancer patients and their family members have been supported over the years. They are allowed time off as required for their treatment. The supportive environment boosts morale. Unconditional job opportunity and special vocational training is either given in-house or sponsored for the deserving candidates. A number of them have subsequently found gainful employment outside the association making use of the training received here.

It is ideal for long hours of wear and can be easily machine or hand washed, making it a safe, affordable and hassle-free product, which can be used within weeks of surgery by mastectomy patients.
While the breast prostheses are available at various hospitals in Mumbai, they can be obtained directly from the Rehabilitation Center at Mumbai. Email manju.gupta@cancer.org.in for rates and further information.
