Khazana

CPAA, the Parents
Association Thallasemic Unit Trust (PATUT) and The Oberoi Hotel, led by
noted ghazal singer Pankaj Udhas will bring together the country's
finest ghazal singers to present 'Ghazal Khazana'. The Regal Room
of the Oberoi Trident, will play host to this annual two day festival of
ghazals on 27th and 28th July 2012. A treasure of talented artistes,
Pt. Ajay Pohankar, Anup Jalota, Bhupinder Singh, Mitali Singh, Talat
Aziz, Abhijit Pohankar, Hariharan, Mohammed Hussain, Ahmed Hussain,
Chandreya Bhattacharya, Suchismita Das, and Pankaj Udhas will
perform live. A delicious meal will be arranged specially for the event
by chefs of The Oberoi.

WORLD
NO TOBACCO DAY 2012:
Every year, the 31st of May is observed as World No-Tobacco Day.
This year, the World Health Organisation had selected the theme
'Tobacco Industry Interference', focusing on educating
policy-makers and the general public about the tactics used by the
tobacco industry to subvert tobacco laws.
CPAA has
joined forces with organisations world over to fight the menace of
tobacco for the past two decades and more in many innovative ways
especially targeting the youth.
In appreciation, the WHO
awarded CPAA with the World No Tobacco Day Award 2012 for contributions
in the area of tobacco control in India. CPAA is proud and honoured to
receive this recognition.

Mumbai:
185 participants from all over India sent in their entries for
CPAA's Photography Competition on the topics: Tobacco industry marketing
tactics; Ill effects of tobacco; Harm from Second Hand Smoke. The
competition was adjudged by noted fashion photographer Atul Kasbekar,
model-actor Milind Soman, Dr. P C Gupta
(Director, Healis - Sekhsaria Institute for Public Health) and
Raj Halankar
(MD, Kalpakal Design House & Eduta inment
Pvt. Ltd.). The photographs were exhibited on World No Tobacco Day and
the top three were awarded prizes at a press conference held at The
Trident, Bandra on 25th May.

who spoke about their support to the cause of tobacco control.
Celebrated composer-singer-musician group Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy
announced their concert 'Celebration of Life' which was held on 27th
May at Rangasharda Auditorium on the occasion of World No Tobacco
Day. The esteemed panel then felicitated the singers who were to
participate in this concert.
The concert was inaugurated by Dr. L Swasticharan,
actors Tara Sharma, Zareen Khan and Jacky Bhagnani. Singers Shaan,
Raman Mahadevan, Aakriti Kakkar, Anusha Mani, Shilpa Rao, Shweta Pandit,
Shruti Pathak and Neha Bhasin
sang their most popular numbers to a full house. The highlight of
the evening was the nonstop sing-a-thon by the winning trio of
Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy.
The Bollywood music industry used this platform to spread the
message that TOBACCO KILLS, amongst the youth. The show was ably
compered by RJ Tarun Ratnani.
An
ENT cancer screening camp was organized at the Samata Nagar Police
Station
for policemen, their families and the general public on 29th May
2012 in association with Mahindra Tractors (Kandivali).
Actors Sachin Pilgaonkar and Renuka Shahane Rana
were the chief guests at this event.
200 patients, relatives and visitors at KEM hospital's
department of Psychiatry
were sensitized with informative literature, free Anti-gutkha
stickers on 31st May. Patients' needs were recorded in the form of
messages and slogans in a suggestion box.
A group of youth participated in a 'Flash-mob'
held at Carter Road, Bandra on 19th May to promote 'No Smoking'.

Delhi:
An
inter-school essay-poster-slogan competition was held at Tagore
International School on 8th May for 120 students from different
Delhi schools. The topics for the competition were: Tobacco/Smoking
Kills; Papa! Why do you smoke, Don't you care about my future? and
Letter to your favorite film star to stop smoking in up to 200 words.
The panel of Dr Manoj Sharma (Advisor, Cancer Control Program,
Government of NCR Delhi) , Mr Emmanuel Upputuru (National
Creative Director, Publicis) and Mrs Kiran Hukku (Director, CPAA
New Delhi) adjudged The Millennium School as the top performer.
Dr
Sajeela Maini, a senior consultant and tobacco cessation specialists
from Gangaram Hospital conducted Anti tobacco campaigns for CPAA Delhi
at:

Airtel Ltd on 25th May. Conducted a motivation enhancement
therapeutic and interactive session wherein people were sensitized
towards the harmful effects
of tobacco, the nature and severity of
addiction, passive smoking and its ill-effects.

The
Lotus Temple Auditorium for 400 police personnel of the Delhi
Police- South East District on 29th May. A few participants even
came forward to seek help from Dr Mani to quit tobacco. Additional
Commissioner of South Zone, Mr Ajay Chowdhary was present on this
occasion to give the message 'Kill the evil stop smoking from
today'.

Tihar
Jail No 5 for its inmates on zero smoking and no tobacco. Mr G
Sudhakar (DIG, Prisons) appealed to those present to save their
earned money and send it to the family members instead of wasting on
tobacco. Encouraged by his talk a few prisoners decided to give it a
try.
Pune:

A slogan competition
was arranged for students of Erin Nagarwalla School, Citi International
School, Kendriya Vidyalaya, Utkarsh School, Vidya Academy, Crescent
School and Ambedkar Jr. College. The top two slogans were awarded
trophies and a gift at a function held on 31st May at Hotel Pride.

Gits Food Pvt. Ltd. in Pune. 500 people attended the talk.

Colours
of Life - Expression of Life
CPAA's eighth
annual art exhibition 'Colours of Life', curated by Piali
Syam, was inaugurated on 11th June at The Viewing Room
by
Nana Chudasama, Shobhaa De, Sudhir Mishra and Shreyas
Talpade. The evening was also attended by Lilette Dubey,
Kalpana Lajmi, Raell Padamsee and artists Nayanaa Kanodia,
Jaideep Mehrotra, Brinda Miller, Samir Mondal, Bina Aziz and
Ananya Banerjee.
This year's collections includes works of
119 senior and contemporary artists from all over India who
came together to raise funds for cancer patients. The
collection has a large spectrum of works, styles, media and
price range to give art lovers an opportunity to own the
piece of work they desired without having to stretch their
budget.

CPAA's
Neeta More conducted an awareness lecture at the Anudutt High School (Kandivali)
in association with Mahindra Tractors (Kandivali) for over a 100 of
their parents and teachers on 15th June.
New
Delhi Branch:
Guided by CPAA's Total Management philosophy, the Delhi branch recently
started a new initiative - Breast cancer Support Group meetings. Breast
cancer survivors along with their spouses and family members attended a
bi-monthly meeting organized by CPAA, Delhi on 2nd May at All India
Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS). Nisha Mahajan, a renowned Kathak
dancer and yoga teacher taught the participants a few breathing
techniques. The high point of the meeting was a session on 'Emotional
hygiene - stress and burn-out'. It was conducted by Vandana Natu, a film
maker and survivor herself. This session helped many women to vent out
their suppressed emotions and bitterness. At the end of the meeting, the
group was so motivated that they unanimously decided to meet again and
keep up the momentum generated by this initiative.

A generous donor whose mother is suffering from cancer installed a
Television cable connection in the play room of Rajgharia dharamshala
managed by CPAA. This will be a great source of entertainment for the
patients whose life, otherwise, revolves only around treatment centers.
